Seahawks Victorious In Late Thriller Against The Bills

It was a match marred with controversy, excitement, amazing plays and overall an excellent game.

Seattle are now 5-2-1 on the season as they defeated the Buffalo Bills 31-25 in a thriller at CenturyLink Field. Both teams started off brilliantly, the Bills scored the first points of the game with 1 play. Special teams played their part as they blocked a John Ryan punt which gave the Bills 1st & Goal on the 3 yard line. Tyrod Taylor calmly ran for a 3 yard TD to give the Bills a 7-0 lead.

Seattle responded straight away. We finally saw a fresh and healthy Russell Wilson when he threw a 45 yard pass to Doug Baldwin before running in for a 3 yard TD, his first rushing TD since 2014. We also saw a lot of scrambling from Wilson, something he hasn’t been able to do since his week 2 ankle injury.

Buffalo’s second drive of the night ended with a TD, in fact, their first 3 drives ended with them scoring points with their 3rd drive ending in a FG. Having ended the first quarter 14-7, Seattle immediately levelled the score after a huge Pass Interference penalty called on Buffalo. A 3 yard TD for Christine Michaels put Seattle 14-14.

The second quarter saw Seattle score 21 points but the biggest talking point of the half was at the end when Buffalo should’ve had a roughing the passer penalty awarded to them against Richard Sherman. It was a bizarre series of events as kicker Dan Carpenter had to leave the field for a play due to receiving treatment on the field. Sherman was called for offside as he attempted to block the field goal, instead he ran straight into Carpenter and avoided a huge penalty that would’ve given Buffalo 3 points. Carpenter ended up missing from 52 yards.

A big talking point for Seattle was the resurrection of Jimmy Graham. Graham had 2 outstanding 1 handed catches which led to TD’s and had over 100 receiving yards. The connection between Wilson and Graham continues to grow and it’s becoming very deadly.

After a scoreless 3rd quarter, the games next points came in the 4th quarter and it was a nail biter. LeSean McCoy was effective in the running game for Buffalo and made various crucial plays. Buffalo scored a TD and also scored the 2 point conversion thus leaving it to a one possession game after Seattle had scored a FG making the score 31-25.

It all came to the last play of the game, on an important 3rd & goal, Tyrod Taylor was sacked by Cliff Avril, his 8th of the season. Taylor’s 4th & goal pass was incomplete in the end zone and that resulted in Seattle winning a very close game.

Buffalo will feel cheated out of this game after a series of blunders from the officials but ultimately it was Seattle who prevailed.

Russell Wilson ended the game with 282 passing yards and 2 TD’s. Seattle however must improve their running game as they were completely stopped today and they face a huge test next Sunday when they go to Boston and face the New England Patriots, their first match up since Super Bowl 49.
